XM Satellite Radio announced today that XM will offer three days of special programming and exclusive satellite radio coverage direct from Salzburg, Austria of the celebrations surrounding the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. The programming will culminate with a live broadcast of the official Mozart 250th Commemoration Concert in Salzburg. Some of the world's biggest classical music stars will be among those participating in this historical event, including soprano Renee Fleming, pianist Mitsuko Uchida, the Juilliard String Quartet, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The exclusive coverage of Mozart's 250th birthday will be hosted by XM's own Martin Goldsmith and Paul Bachmann live from Salzburg on XM Classics (XM Channel 110) and XM LIVE (XM Channel 200). XM is the only national broadcaster in the U.S. or Canada to offer comprehensive, live coverage of this important musical event. Broadcasting live from the Carolino Augusteum, a 17th century castle and former home of the Archbishops of Salzburg, overlooking the Salzburg Cathedral and the Mozart Platz, XM will be on the air live each day from Salzburg beginning Wednesday, January 25 through Friday, January 27. Interviews with the artists and sound portraits of Salzburg and its people will be featured throughout the daily broadcasts. Wednesday, January 25 12 noon EST, XM Classics (XM Channel 110) Featured performances include Mozart's first symphony performed by the Camerata Salzburg, String Quartet No.14 performed by the Juilliard Quartet, and Piano Concerto No. 27 performed by pianist Emanuel Ax and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. (Encore broadcast at 9 p.m. EST on XM Classics) Thursday, January 26 12 noon EST, XM Classics (XM Channel 110) Featured performances include Mozart's Symphony No. 13 performed by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Piano Trio No. 3 performed by the Rachlin-Golan-Maisky Trio, and Piano Quartet No. 1 performed by pianist Mitsuko Uchida and members of the Hagen Quartet.
